LIFE Nuggets

The purpose of this blog is Essentially to Chronicle our personal faith journey and that of a place that we call LIFE House West. Why Life Nuggets? Because Nuggets bring to mind a sense of fun and enjoyment, show me a child who is sad when they get to eat chicken nuggets..... Things like life, and following Jesus should be fun and we want to explore those things in a light hearted and fun way, so please, enjoy...

Union

Man what a great Easter weekend. Spending time in prayer on friday and then launching into communion on Easter was great. Thanks to all who brought friends to the gathering as we had 150 people there! Now that the update is out, I want to move onto a new LIFE Nugget. I want to talk a moment about something that seems to have been mistaken in modern American church. I want to talk about the Holy Spirit.

Yes we talk about the Spirit moving when we have a jumping church service, or when a bunch of people run to the altar to pray, but I find myself thinking that we need more. Well, perhaps not more, maybe we just need to refocus. You see, I feel that we have reduced the Holy Spirit to a sideshow. We only expect the Spirit to move in church services and we never think about the fact that he wants to live in us.

I feel that we have totally forgotten that our bodies are a dwelling place for Holy Spirit to reside in. Now let me say that this is not about legalism. This is not about checking a bunch of stuff off of your list of do's and don'ts. This is about union with God. Jesus told his disciples that when they Holy Spirit came that He would live in them. Imagine that, God living in them. The Incarnation was mystery enough, God becoming flesh, but this was different. This is God making his home in a person. Sadly, I think that we forget the profound nature of that concept because it has become simply a theological idea we agree with.

I feel that the day has come that it must again become part of our experience. A vibrant life with the Spirit, union with God. God dwelling in us. Do you ever take time to stop and think about that? Do you ever stop and wonder if you have made a good home for the God to dwell in? I have found myself thinking about this today and it has already altered some behavior today.

So why not take a moment and ponder the fact that your life can be unified and filled with God. That's a union that will change you forever.
